Abstract

In the globalization era, Muslims face the challenges of secularism and fundamentalism. Both make extremist conduct that induces social inequality among Muslim society. This problem inspired Kuntowijoyo to make an intellectual breakthrough that moved from the text to a context based on the scientification of Islam, the integralistic paradigm, and Islam as a science. Kuntowijoyo formulated the three points to become a paradigm of prophetic Islam (social prophetic science). Conceptually, Kuntowijoyo's Islamic thought uses prophetic philosophy as a viewpoint in examining the reality of the ummah to direct the social transformation of Muslims towards certain prophetic goals, namely a just peaceful, tolerant, and prosperous life. On the other hand, Kuntowijoyo's prophetic Islamic paradigm moderates Islamic secular thought and fundamental Islamic thought. Kuntowijoyo's prophetic Islamic thought carries three main missions, namely humanization (humanizing humans), liberation (liberation from structural oppression and extremist attitudes), and transcendence (tauhid as an element of unity). This article aims to explore the idea of Islamic moderation in Kuntowijoyo's Islamic idea which is transformative and inclusive. Descriptively and analytically, this article will explain Kuntowijoyo's integralistic Islamic paradigm and social prophetic ethics. As a knife of analysis, the researcher will use an intellectual historical approach to dissect the correspondence between the characters, namely reactions to previous thoughts and the genealogy of Kuntowijoyo's knowledge.
