Writing is one of the important skill in English learning. When students write English langauge, they face a lot of writing difficulties. One of the strategy that can be used by students to help overcoming their writing difficulties is free writing. In this article, the writer reviewed some researchs on the use of free writing in teaching writing skill. Free writing is prior writing methods that a person writes continuously for a determined time without wondering about spelling, structure, or topic (Nurfiryalianti, Jamiluddin, & Hastini, 2014).  It is a good method to make students develop their ideas, and words to express their ideas by never stop to write anything, wonder how to spell something, wonder what word or ideas to use, think about grammar. Based on the study, the researcer found that English writing fluency can be improved by freewriting technique (Hwang, 2010).
