Abstract


This paper will present the role of metacognition and its implication in teaching EFL reading comprehension. Metacognition, an awareness of one’s cognitive process, plays an important role in explaining and describing the reading processes. The role of metacognition, both knowledge and strategies, will be described in teaching and learning of reading and its effects on the successful teaching and learning of reading. Students’ metacognition will shape their beliefs and attitudes toward their reading process which in turn influence their behaviors and success in reading comprehension.
