Abstract

Abstract: Neem (Azadirachta indica Juss.) is a plant belonging to the Meliaceae family. Neem leaves contain active compounds of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, β-sitosterol, nimbolide, quercetin, routine, and nimbine. which has the potential to heal wounds. This research was conducted to determine the effect of giving crushed neem leaves (DMT) on the mean wound shrinkage in zebrafish. This research was a real laboratory experimental study, using a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 7 replications. 28 zebrafish were divided into 4 groups and injured 0.3 cm in length. Group 1 as a control (without DMT), groups 2, 3, and 4 as treatment with DMT concentrations of 1 gram (10%), 2 grams (20%), and 3 grams (30%). Data were analyzed using the Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) test with a confidence level of 95%. The results were significantly different (p<0.05) followed by further Tukey post hoc test. Based on the results of the ANOVA test, the value of p <0.001 shows that there is a significant difference (p<0.05) between the control and treatment. The control group was significantly different from the P1, P2, and P3 groups. The provision of DMT was proven to have a significant effect on the shrinkage of zebrafish wounds. Wound shrinkage in zebrafish occurs due to the presence of flavonoids, saponins, and tannins which function as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and astringent compounds that shrink skin pores and prevent edema. DMT affects the wound healing phase, the inflammatory stage, cell proliferation, matrix deposition to the remodeling phase.
