THE EFFECT OF SHORT PROCEDURAL FILMS ON THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN THE WRITING PROCEDURE TEXT AT HOTEL ACCOMMODATION DEPARTMENT

Abstract


Abstract: Writing is very important as the media of non-verbal communication. But, writing isdifficult because it mixtures the ideas, vocabulary and also grammar. Using interesting teachingmedia as short procedural film, it is believed to achieve the learning goals for teaching writing inthe vocational high school.This study was conducted to find out the effect of short procedural film on the students’ability in writing procedure text. The findings revealed that there was significant effect of theshort procedural films on the students’ ability in writing procedure text. The significant effectswere: (1) it offered a visual context and authentic performance which bring the students’understanding for catching the use of language, culture, and real life situation easily. (2) Itprovided the subtitles which stimulate the students to increase the vocabulary input. (3) It servedthe plot of story consecutively. (4) It showed the story of procedural something agree with thematerials of procedure text which have to learn by the students of hotel accommodationdepartment as the syllabus used in the Vocational High School level.Based on the result of analysis the data, it offered the significant effect on the students’writing ability, especially for the writing procedure text in term of organization, content, andvocabulary. Moreover, it is as the interesting method to stimulate the students’ ideas in goodwriting procedure text. The students can arrange the process based on the generic structure ofprocedural event on the short film. The last, the researcher recommended for English teacher toused short film method in teaching writing English especially for writing procedure text.
