The trilogy of education proposed by Ki Hadjar Dewantara or most well known as Among system were still relevant to the implementation of character education in school. This study generally aimed to uncover and describe the implementation of character education and also to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing character education through Among system proposed by Ki Hadjar Dewantara in SDN Pejagan 5 Bangkalan

This study used qualitative approach and case study as the research design. The subjects of this study were the students of 4th and 5th grade, the principal, and also the teachers of SDN Pejagan 5 Bangkalan. The data were collected through observation, interview, data display, and conclusion drawing.

The result of the study based on the data analysis showed that Among system which was applied by the teachers was able to form character values on the students. The trilogy of Among system which were consisted of Ing Ngarsa Sung Tuladha, Ing Madya Mangun Karsa and Tut Wuri Handayani meant that the teachers as educators must be instilling an exemplary attitude towards the students and adjusting them to implement it in every intra-curricular and co-curricular activities, as well as extra-curricular and non-curricular activities. Character values which were implemented in school were religious character values, nationalism, integrity, independence, and mutual cooperation. These five values were crystallization of the values, representing 18 character values according to Government’s program in streghthening character education.

The inhibiting factors in implementng character education through Among system were teachers’ limits in understanding every student’s character, limits in supervising, perception differences about parenting or guiding concepts within the family and environment, and also the lack of facilities to socialize the importance of character education towards the students.
