Abstract

Childfree, which means husband and wife's decision not to have children, is a concept that has been around for a long time and has become a trend of life in western countries in general. However, recently, this concept has also begun to penetrate into Indonesia and is being campaigned by some residents who are happy with the concept, especially from among the artists and elite figures who are actually more established economically than others. The reasons are various, but the main reason is because of busyness and career demands, so for years they have preferred not to have children in order to realize these goals. This study aims to determine the views of Islamic law related to Childfree, so that it can be used as a consideration for married or newly married couples to choose or not the concept. The data collection method in this study was carried out through a literature review by reading, understanding and extracting main ideas from various literature books and research journals. The results of this study indicate that Islamic Shari'ah has a contradictory view of the concept. But on the other hand, based on the underlying conditions, Islamic Shari'ah also has varied views, so a more detailed explanation is needed regarding the views of Islamic law regarding this matter.
